The County Clippers organization is proud to recognize Coach Tyler Thrasher as our 2025 - 2026 Coach of the Year.
Coach Tyler embodies everything that youth sports should represent. Through his passion for the game, unwavering commitment to our athletes, and dedication to our program, he has made a lasting impact on countless players and families throughout our community.
Year after year, Coach Tyler has gone above and beyond, investing not only in the development of his players’ skills on the court, but also in their confidence, character, and personal growth off the court. He leads with integrity, encouragement, and genuine care, challenging athletes to work hard, believe in themselves, and become the best versions of themselves.
His influence extends far beyond wins and losses. The true measure of Coach Tyler’s success is found in the young people he has mentored, the relationships he has built, and the positive, lasting impact he has made in the lives of so many within the County Clippers family.
As we celebrate this well-deserved recognition, we are equally excited to announce that Coach Tyler will continue his journey with the County Clippers by joining our organization as a Member at Large. In this new role, he will continue to help shape the future of our program, support our coaches and athletes, and further his commitment to growing and strengthening youth basketball in our community.

Hunter McCourt (Player)
Coach Tyler has coached me since I first started playing basketball and he’s always given me nothing but support. He’s such a great encouragement to any team that’s lucky enough to have him on the staff and not only does he do that but he helps everyone improve as basketball players. To this day he’s still the reason I am the player and teammate I am because of Tyler’s help and encouragement and he’s still the only reason I know how to box out!
Luke Graham (Player)
Coach Tyler Thrasher has played a big role in my basketball journey since he convinced me to try out for his team before U14. This year, I had the privilege of being a captain of his U17 gold medal winning team. Coach Thrasher demands hard work and discipline, but what sets him apart is how he pushes players to improve while always building their confidence. I still remember during U14 when I fell for a pump fake and he told me to never fall for one again. Years later, he still reminds me of that moment because it taught me to learn from my mistakes and keep improving. Coach Thrasher deserves Coach of the Year not just because of his success, but because he brings out the best in every player and helps them grow both on and off the court.
Parker Miller (Player)
Idrk what I can say that everyone doesn't already know about Coach Tyler. He's one of the first people who really saw something in me and believed in me before I even believed in myself.
To be honest, when I first started playing for him, I thought he hated me. He was always on me—telling me to push harder, run faster, give more effort, and expecting more out of me than everyone else. At the time, I didn't get it. I thought he was just being hard on me.
But as the season progressed, I realized it was the complete opposite. He was hard on me because he saw something in me that I couldn't see in myself yet. He knew what I was capable of and refused to let me settle for less.
Every practice and every game, he pushed me to be better because he believed I could BE better.
One of the things I'll always remember is him calling me the "glue guy." He always said I was the "every man's man" and the best off-the-court teammate. That meant a lot to me because it showed that he saw more than just the player I was on the court. He saw my character, how I treated my teammates, and the kind of person I was becoming.
There were times when I got frustrated with myself, had bad games, or doubted whether I was good enough, and Coach Tyler was always there. He taught me that one bad game doesn't define you, that mistakes are part of getting better, and that confidence comes from putting in the work and trusting yourself.
He spent so much time helping me understand the mental side of sports—how to stay focused, how to handle pressure, how to bounce back when things don't go your way, and how to keep believing in yourself when things get hard.
But honestly, the most important part of our relationship has never been basketball.
It's the fact that he showed up in real life.
He showed up when I needed encouragement. He checked in on me. He listened. He supported me through things that had nothing to do with basketball. He reminded me that I'm more than just a player and that who I am off the court matters just as much as who I am on it.
Through County Clippers practices and games, and even through high school basketball, he's always been there supporting me, pushing me, and cheering me on. Knowing I had someone like him in my corner gave me confidence and made me want to work harder.
A lot of coaches teach you how to play the game, but Coach Tyler taught me lessons that I'll carry with me for the rest of my life—work hard, stay humble, be a great teammate, don't give up on yourself, and always keep pushing to be better.
I honestly wouldn't be the player I am today, or even the person I am today, without the impact Coach Tyler has had on my life.
More than anything, I'm grateful that I get to call him not just my coach, but my mentor and a lifelong friend. Thank you for believing in me before I believed in myself, for pushing me to be better every single day, and for always showing up—not just on the court, but in real life too.
James McCourt (Coach)
Tyler Thrasher is what you would hope a coach would be. He is thoughtful, caring, considerate and wants the best for everyone. He puts endless amounts of time into the athletes he coaches and on becoming a better coach. Tyler is always looking for ways to develop and grow. What I love most about watching Tyler coach is how he encourages athletes. He is constantly reminding everyone about their strengths while also encouraging them to grow in specific areas of their game. This recognition is a true reflection of the time, energy, and heart that Tyler puts into any team he is associated with. His leadership, dedication, and ability to inspire those around him does not go unnoticed. He makes a difference not only in the success of the Clipper athletes, but also in the confidence, growth, and character he helps build in each person he coaches.
Being chosen for this award speaks volumes about the respect and appreciation others have for Tyler and the work he does. Tyler’s passion for the game and commitment to his teams set an incredible example. Tyler has been a big part of the Clippers organization over the past seven years. His devotion to athletes, parents and community members is second to none. Every organization needs coaches like Tyler who lead with their heart.
Jackson Pettipas (Player)
Tyler would always go out of his way to help players in anyway he could if it seemed like they were having an off day or getting frustrated. Every player mattered to him and I’ve never had an assistant coach care so much especially well also having a team of his own to take care of. Tyler always had something meaningful and important to add to discussions and he made sure to keep things fun by always joking around with us. The Clippers team I fell in love with this year wouldn’t have been the same if we didn’t have the best assistant coach the game of basketball has ever seen.
Sullivan Shakell (Player)
He is the kindest coach I’ve had. If he didn’t coach me I would still be bad at my favourite sport. He’s great and I hope he coaches me again.
Gavin Campbell (Player)
Coach Tyler was a great coach, many nights he'd be coaching 2 different teams right after each other. But even with his son being on another team he'd always show up to our games and practices, constantly telling me to be more physical and critique my shooting form. He's definitely helped me get better over the season as I try to work on the things he critiques and improve. I've been working on getting more physical, putting more shots up outside of practice and improving my form because of him. He wants me and the teams to get better but also seems to have fun, joke around and stay in a good mood.

Some coaches teach a game. Others change lives. And in Tyler’s case some do both.
In 2022, Coach Tyler Thrasher came into my son’s life, and from that moment on, he became so much more than a basketball coach. He became a mentor, a role model, and a constant source of encouragement and support.
Through countless County Clippers practices and games, Coach Tyler dedicated his time and energy to helping my son become a better basketball player. He pushed him to work harder, believe in himself, and understand that growth comes through effort, discipline, and perseverance. He saw potential and challenged him to reach it.
But Coach Tyler’s impact didn’t stop when the games ended.
He continued to show up for my son during his high school basketball journey, offering encouragement, guidance, and support every step of the way. He celebrated his successes, helped him navigate setbacks, and reminded him that his value extended far beyond what happened on the court.
What makes Coach Tyler truly special is the way he invests in the whole person. He has supported my son not only physically as an athlete, but mentally and emotionally as a young man. He has encouraged confidence, resilience, accountability, and self-belief. He has been someone my son could look up to—someone who genuinely cared about his well-being and wanted to see him succeed in every aspect of life.
As parents, we hope our children encounter people who will positively shape their lives, people who lead with kindness, integrity, and heart. Coach Tyler has been exactly that for my son.
The impact of a great coach can never truly be measured in wins, points, or championships. It is measured in the confidence they build, the lessons they teach, and the lives they help shape.
Thank you, Coach Tyler Thrasher, for showing up. Thank you for believing in my son, for pushing him to be better, and for supporting him both on and off the court. The difference you have made in his life is lasting, meaningful, and deeply appreciated.
Justin Shakell (Parent)
After being a coach myself for over 20 years, I have a pretty good eye on what a quality coach is. And coach Thrasher fits those criteria. He is fair, firm, knowledgeable of the game and knows how to motivate his players. My son has never been part of a team until coach Thrasher took a chance on him and kept him and it has made an everlasting affect on him.
The culture he has created has been a breath of fresh air. He demands his players be competitive, compassionate and push themselves past their comfort zones. He believes in 'we' before 'me' and us as parents got to witness how the boys worked with each other, cared for each other, played for each other to achieve their goals. It's hard to build that not only in basketball but in boys wanting to be the next LeBron. It's hard to find good qualified hard working coaches who dedicate their time and energy for a thankless job. A tip of the cap to coach for being an amazing role model in our boys lives.

Tyler was always supportive of everyone. He would always talk people up and build their confidence. He also has a very high understanding of the game and he always used it to help the team. Off the court he had great relationships with all parents and players so he always brought the energy in the room up.

Thank you for everything he has done this season. His leadership, dedication, and commitment to the team have made a lasting impact. He has been a huge part of what motivated me to give my best effort, especially toward the end. I am truly grateful for his guidance congratulations on being named Coach of the Year.

Coach Tyler was very helpful this year, especially when I needed to fix my form on my shot. He also had a talk with me about our team energy and when we actually did get our energy up as a team we became unstoppable. I am very glad tyler was a coach this year

Nick Whorsley (Coach)
A genuine youth basketball enthusiast with no ego attached. believes in the power of basketball to shape boys into young men. Hes driving three hours round trip twice a week just for practices, booking extra games and opportunities for his squad to help them improve. Watching game tape back 2-3 times. Coaching multiple teams. For the love of the game. On the sidelines and on the practice court, in the post game huddle, he is always positive; pumping tires, encouraging, lifting spirits. He believes in these young men even when they dont. Always passionate, never angry no matter the mistake or the score. Hes a collaborator who encourages and welcomes new insights; a culture builder with no ego. a rare gem in the world of competitive sport; and the clippers and his teams; parents, athletes, managers and assistants, are really lucky to have him and better for it.
